PostSubject: Terrible twos!!! Urgent help needed!!!   29th November 2007, 2:29 pm

Ive got a major problem with Brandon at the mo, he just wont listen to me. He's fine with steve coz he doesnt stand for his nonsense but his behaviour for me is terrible!

Take today for instance, thought we would make some xmas cards and get his craft box out which he loves. He thought it was great for a little while and then got bored as I know kids do but he starting throwing things everywhere. He had a small cup of pepsi max he tipped it on the floor and then asked for more, I said no so he smacked me round the face, I was so angry with him. I took him upstairs and put him in his cot and left him screaming for about 10 minutes. I needed time to calm down myself aswel.

When I went to get him i sat him on his rug and told him why he was there and what hed done wrong and he seemed ok, we had a hug and a kiss and all was forgotton.

Come downstairs and he wanted more pepsi max but I wasnt going to back down so he started with his paddy again. Finally he realised he wasnt getting any and kept saying no coke so that was onre battle finally over with.
He then wanted sweets but because of what he did i said no, i said if he was a good boy he might have some later so he started again. He had an apple instead which hes quite happily munching on now.

But im sick of the constant battle with him, what would you suggest as a form of punishment for him? Bearing in mind hes only 2, doesnt really understand hes not having sweets etc coz hes naughty.

I also need something for when he has a paddy I dont want to keep putting him in his cot as a form of punishment cos i dont want the same problems i had getting him to bed earlier on in the year

He is very strong willed just like me and steve i spose but I really need help with him.

What you you suggest from a proffesional point of view Bex? And comments from other mums appreciated too.

Thanks from a very stressed out mummy at the mo.

When Brandon went through a stage of biting last year I used the naughty beanbag, only did it twice and then he stopped. Trouble is I left that bean bag at my old house, the only other one we have is his bean bag chair which i dont really want to start using that. Although saying that he doesnt use it anyway so that might be a good idea thinking about it. I will give it a go thanks xx

Aww hun i can completely symathise with you as we are going through the same thing with Joshua....he is currently banging his toy phone on the tv but no matter how many times i say no to something he just doesnt listen!!! He knows when he has been naughty because as soon as i stand up to take something off him he starts shouting and laughing. He is an angel for everyone else but as soon as we come through the front door he starts.

He is only 18 months so putting him on a naughty spot just doesnt work he follows me screaming x

Its the same for me Kaye, hes a little angel when it comes to everyone else but for me he a devil child!!!!

I've had such a bad day today and its only getting worse. Im going to work shortly and thank god I am I cant stand it anymore today.

2 times hes been in his cot today and hes close to his 3rd I just cant cant cope!!! Steves due home at 2.30 so im going to work early the quicker im out of here the better.

He's never been this bad before he's just been on at me all day, normally he plays up when hes ill or going to be ill so im waiting to see how he is tomorrow and over the weekend.

Its a bad state of affairs when a 2 year old reduces you to tears!!! What makes it worse is that I was actually glad to see my sister in law today and I hate her!!!

Ive really got to do something its getting me down. Steve says i need to be more firm with him, make him so things instead of keep shouting at him to do and then end up doing it myself. Well had first attempt not long ago, he threw a fruitshoot bottle on the floor deliberatly when I had tidied up so I askedhim to pick it up, he refused so I told him to pick it up and he refused so I got up went over to him took his hand and went over to the bottle and made him pick it up. Wasnt to bad, just need to stick to it now.

Ive got such a headache, doesnt help that I got a meeting at work today regarding the amount of time I had of due to losing the baby I think thats stressing me out aswell.

Just want today to be over, Ive had enough already.

hiya

sorry for the delay in replying i was going to reply last night and i had a phone call to see if i would go and baby sit haha

anyways right terrible two's!!!!!!!!!!

i think u need to sort out something like a naughty chair or something so that when he is being naughty then u put him on there, give him a minute, and sit next to him and tlk to him about why he on the chair (or woteva u use) then do as u did the other day when tht minute is over hug and stuff like.
but also i would encourage u to do something lke a rewards chart to encourage his good behaviour. make a sticker chart or something and when he has got say 10 stickers he can have a packet of tick tacks or smething like that.
also when u using the naughty chair u need to be consistant, if say ur ptting brandon on there for hitting u for example if he was to do it again sa a day later dnt jsut shout at him n thts it put him on the naughty chair, so tht he wil get to realise tht is bad and if he does do i then he will be on the naughty chair.
when giving punishments u need to b consistant, thats one of the things i have found out at the nursery, if your not consitant then they will think they can get away with it.

hope this helps
bex x

Anne mention a reward chart on msn other day, I said I thought he was a bit to young to understand. But maybe its worth a try, im willing to try anything at the mo.

I think im going to try the naughty step or the naughty chair as we have a dining table chair. I do have a booster seat for it where he could be strapped in, do you think this is a good idea or do i need to encourage him to do his time without restraning him?

Thanks

To be honest havent tried anything. Hes beenas good as gold since last week. He hasnt been well and we always seem to get the horrid behaviour just before it comes out. Weve had the odd time where he hasnt doneas hes told so ive told him off and then hes done it so havent needed any punishment.
